We are Seeds of Love. Under this umbrella, we pursue projects that address deep-rooted inequalities, particularly in regions where women’s voices have long been silenced.

Seeds of Love —Verein zur Förderung von Entwicklungszusammenarbeit— is a non-profit association based in Graz, Austria, primarily active in Kenya, Samburu County.

Our Mission

Our mission is to plant seeds of love, combating poverty and hardship in Kenya and beyond by promoting the social, societal, and economic development of individuals and communities.

We aim to foster sustainable economic growth, structural and social transformation, and empower people to live self-determined lives by:

  • Supporting education and skills training.
  • Creating opportunities for women to achieve economic independence.
  • Educating on harmful practices such as Female Genital Cutting (FGC) to reduce cases and protect future generations.
  • Encouraging sustainable agriculture and self-sufficiency —literally planting seeds that feed families and futures.

While our main efforts are rooted locally, we plan to expand into other regions and countries as our work grows. We collaborate closely with locals to ensure our projects meet real needs on the ground.

We envision communities where women and men have equal opportunities to learn, work, and thrive. We strive to see children with access to education, villages that are self‑sufficient and work toward the day when women hold a rightful, respected place in society. Every child should know there is life beyond limitation, and no one is trapped by circumstance.

Our Story

Our chairwoman’s personal journey is central to our cause. Peninah Lesorogol grew up in Samburu County where women were commonly denied education, ownership, and the freedom to make decisions without a man’s permission. As a curious and bold young girl she regularly asked her grandmother why men enjoyed such privileges, the answer was: “Because the first man said so”. Ever since, she is determined to break this cycle —to raise awareness about harmful practices like female genital cutting (FGC), to reduce their occurrence, to promote self-sufficient agriculture and to encourage the exchange of stories that inspire freedom and self-worth. Later in life, at the wise age of 105 years, her grandmother voiced a wish: “One day your answer will be: ‘Because the first woman said so'”. Peninah has taken this to heart, dedicating her life to it.

Every big change starts with a seed —an idea, a choice, a single act of courage. Join us in sowing seeds of love— through membership, donations, partnerships, or volunteering. Together, we can help communities move from surviving to thriving, from silence to voice, and from limitation to opportunity.
